Oxbow Restoration Oxbow Restoration Identifying attributes of the abandoned channel Photos taken before and after the restoration First flows through the reactivated channel Extreme high water had caused the river to flow over a meander neck, abandoning approximately 700 linear feet of channel. The resulting discontinuity in channel slope was causing erosion of the river bed, higher velocities and increased erosion on downstream banks. Kingfisher Consulting removed the deposits from the historic channel and recreated important fish habitat with the meander. This material was used to plug the straight channel through the neck of the meander.
