Ruby River Pheasant Habitat Restoration

This ranch supported a small, but fragmented population of Ring-necked pheasant when it was purchased in 1997. A lack of forage and cover limited the ability for a healthy population to feed, nest, and avoid predators. Kingfisher Consulting initiated two small releases of 13 week old birds, and developed a plan for the establishment of food plots and the management of grazing and vegetation to promote nesting and protective cover. 5 years after the effort began, a naturally reproducing pheasant population continues to rise without additional stocking, and the ranch is providing high quality hunting for wild birds.
